Summer Nights
Summer is grass between your toes. Summer is reading 3 books a week not because you’re bored but because you can and still have a life. Summer is camping out in the backyard and not freezing your hiney off. Summer is cruising around after midnight on a Tuesday with the windows rolled down enjoying the quiet world as most people lay sleeping in their beds. Summer is iced coffee and outdoor chess at 11 o’clock at night in a plaza with sparkly white lights lining the trees. Summer is inspiration. Summer is deviance. Summer is walking to your old middle school at 2 am just for the hell of it. Summer is knocking on your high school dean’s door two blocks from your mom’s house at 11:30 at night just to say hi. Summer is driving all night to visit a friend still stuck in school on the opposite side of the state. Summer is drudging through 4 hours of menial office bitch work that feels like 4 years because it’s keeping you from the beach. Summer is napping in the sun even though you slept perfect and carefree the night before. Summer is staring at the stars from the hood of your car in a tank top and flip flops. Summer is simultaneously crammed with nostalgia and possibility. Summer is falling to sleep listening to wind chimes and crickets outside the open window.
I always forget how much I fucking love summer.
